From college to retirement photography has been a consistent source of enjoyment for me. Film and the wet darkroom were great but digital and Photoshop are incredible. I currently shoot with a Canon 7D, use Photoshop CS5 and will shoot any subject in natural light.
I've developed skills over the years with college classes, workshops and lots of trial and error. I've received awards in local and state wide competitions, done some commercial work and had a few images published.
In the camera club I've found enthusiasts who are extremely generous in sharing their time and talents. My advice to new members - take advantage and get involved - see you there.

I joined the jacksonville Camera Club in 1997 not knowing anything about photography except that I loved looking at the pictures in National Geographic magazines. I started with a Nikon N90S Film Camera. I fell in love with Velvia Slide Film and Fuji Color Film. I was quite shy at the time but once the members were more open to teaching fellow members, I made friends easily who were willing to share their knowledge and tricks of the trade. From them I gained the drive to better my skills, look at everything from many directions, play with the camera settings and read as many books as I could get my hands on. Entering competitions helped me to strive even further to get what I saw translated on paper. The JCC is the best club in Florida and I have made many life long friendships that I treasure. Photography takes me to a sweet place that nothing else is on my mind and gives me a thrill of actually "capturing" what I see.

Since receiving my first camera as a child I have had a camera nearby. Coming from a scientific background, I find photography to be the perfect balance of logic and creativity. However, it was not until my husband surprised me with a DSLR that I felt truly free to play. My path zigs and zags because, for me, photography is about the adventure not the destination.
When I discovered the Jacksonville Camera Club a few years ago, I also discovered an inspiring group of people who are willing to share their knowledge, enthusiasm, and the adventure.

I have enjoyed taking photos since I was in junior high as a hobby or documenting vacations. I joined the camera club several years ago to try and learn more about what makes a great photo and how to get it. It has been a great on going learning experience. It is a great group of people who are more than willing to share their knowledge. I work as a mammographer and ultrasound technologist in St Augustine. Besides photography I enjoy working out, bicycling, riding motorcycles, volleyball, boogie boarding, and spending time with family and friends.

This photographer was born on a 4th of July, in Germany. On my 14th birthday I got a "real" camera,
which my family soon regreted, since I was always after everybody to take their picture . . .
My apprentice years were spent with a large Hamburg studio. After I got married I followed my husband
on Volkswagen Assignments to New Zealand - Israel - and S.Africa. When his next job was . . . .
Florida and permanent, I was ready to make my photographer dreams reallity.
Classes in Fort Lauderdale, then JCC and PPSNF in Jacksonville - Florida Prof. Photogr. & PPofA -
I joined them all within 3 years. I much enjoyed doing architectural photography - but by far- my
favorites were people. This brought me a strong involvement with Douglas Anderson School of the
Arts - now in my 19th Year. I loved to enter in competitions and won many awards, and about 10 years
ago my "Master of Photography" followed.
My friend on the prof. level ask me: with all your experience, why are you still a member of the JCC?
I just smile and think, if you only knew what you are missing -- and leave it at that.

I have taken pictures all of my life. I had one of the first Brownies-- a lot of people won't know what that is, and a folding Kodak that took 620 B&W roll film. I had a darkroom in high school and have stayed in the amatuer photo business ever since. I joined the club in the early nineties and thought that I was a great photographer. Guess what! I didn't win anything for almost 2 years. Back then the club was not as interested in teaching, and you had to learn most everything by yourself. I learned mostly from the critiques during the quarterly slide and print competitions. Then I got lucky and won Shutterbug Awards for two years in a row. Since then I have retired and have had time to take a greater interest in the club. I have been on the board of directors for several years, and now have probably taken on more than I can chew as editor of the monthly newsletter, Clicks.
I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy the comradship of the club along with wonderful outings. As long as I can, I hope to stay active.
